1.3 Supported Devices

AppManager SNMP Toolkit monitors SNMP version 1, 2, and 3 devices by using SNMP to poll MIBs (management information bases).

NetIQ Corporation offers two versions of the AppManager SNMP Toolkit module. AppManager SNMP Toolkit and AppManager SNMP Toolkit UNIX allow you to monitor devices in your network using SNMP. Both modules use a proxy architecture, in which the AppManager agent (or UNIX agent) runs on a “proxy” computer and sends SNMP requests to selected remote devices.

Whether you should use AppManager SNMP Toolkit or AppManager SNMP Toolkit UNIX depends on whether you use a Windows computer or UNIX computer to run the agent:

  • If you use a Windows computer, install the AppManager SNMP Toolkit module on an agent computer running one of the supported Windows operating systems. Run the Discovery_Snmp Knowledge Script to discover the devices to be monitored, and use the Snmp Knowledge Scripts to monitor your devices.

  • If you use a UNIX computer, install the AppManager SNMP Toolkit UNIX module on a UNIX agent computer running one of the supported UNIX operating systems. Run the Discovery_SnmpUNIX Knowledge Script to discover the devices to be monitored, and use the SnmpUNIX Knowledge Scripts to monitor your devices.
