4.2 How to share the Smartphone Authenticator

Bob has multiple user identities across several repositories. He can enroll the smartphone authenticator only with one identity and share that with the other identities.

IMPORTANT:This feature currently supports Android Smartphones.

For example, Bob has three identities in different repositories named as repoA\Bob1, repoB\Bob2, and repoC\Bob3. Bob enrolled the smartphone authenticator for repoA\Bob1. He can share this enrolled authenticator with the repoB\Bob2 and repoC\Bob3. This allows Bob to authenticate any of these identities using a single smartphone authenticator.

To share the smartphone authenticator of repoA\Bob1 with repoB\Bob2 and repoC\Bob3, perform the following steps:

  1. Log in to the Helpdesk portal with your Helpdesk administrator credentials.

  2. In the User to manage screen, specify the username as repoB\Bob2.

  3. Click the Linked Authenticators tab on the screen.

  4. In the search authenticator field, specify repoA\Bob1 whose smartphone authenticator can be used as shared authenticator.

  5. Click Save.

  6. Repeat the same steps for repoC\Bob3 user identity.

Bob will now be able to authenticate to any of these accounts by using a single smartphone authenticator.

4.2.1 Limitations for Smartphone authenticator

The following limitations are applicable when sharing a smartphone authenticator with an identity:

  • The identity or user you want to share the smartphone authenticator with must not already have the smartphone authenticator enrolled.

  • Only one smartphone authenticator can be shared with an identity or user. Multiple authenticators can't be shared with the same identity.
